In a recent poll prediction, Indian politician and Member of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor, stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to emerge as the single-largest party in the upcoming elections. Senior Congress Party Leader Shashi Tharoor, who represents the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, made this statement while addressing a gathering of party workers and supporters.

Tharoor’s prediction comes at a time when political parties are gearing up for the elections and formulating their strategies. As a seasoned politician, Tharoor’s insights hold significant weight and are often considered by political analysts and observers.

Mr Tharoor Stated that “I still expect that the BJP will emerge as the single-largest party”. But I do believe their numbers can be brought down to a level where their potential allies required to form a government may no longer be willing to ally with them and may be willing to ally with us. So, we have to give it a try,” the Congress veteran said while speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) in Kozhikode on Saturday.
On the seat-sharing talks between the alliance partners of the INDIA bloc, Tharoor also said that he hopes to have “sufficient agreements” in as many states as possible so that “preventable defeats” can be avoided. He also highlighted that the decision shall be taken in accordance with the political nature of different states.

While Tharoor acknowledged the BJP’s strong position, he also emphasized the importance of a united opposition to counterbalance the ruling party’s influence. He called for opposition parties to come together and form a strong coalition that can effectively challenge the BJP’s dominance.

Tharoor’s prediction is in line with recent trends and surveys that have indicated the BJP’s popularity among voters. However, it is important to note that poll predictions are not always accurate, and the final outcome of the elections will depend on various factors, including voter turnout, regional dynamics, and campaign strategies.

He pointed out that in Kerala, it is “almost impossible to imagine the two major opponents here of the INDIA alliance, CPI(M) and the Congress, ever agreeing on seat-sharing”. At the same time, in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, the CPI, CPI(M), Congress and DMK “are all allied together and there is no debate, no dispute”.

Tharoor added in Congress party workers meeting speech, “That’s the best thing they can do, and if it so happens, and there is enough divergence of views, maybe the BJP candidate will win. But that’s democracy in our first-past-the-post system”. The most important thing that one needs to remind the people of this country is to vote for the best person in their constituency, he said.

He also said that India is a diverse country, and he is perfectly prepared to live with the situation where they don’t have a “100 per cent agreement in 100 per cent of the states”.

As the elections draw closer, political pundits and citizens alike will closely watch the developments and predictions. The outcome of the elections will shape the future of Indian politics and have far-reaching implications for the country.

It is worth mentioning that Shashi Tharoor’s poll prediction is just one perspective among many, and the final result will be determined by the voters’ choices on election day.
